So, yesterday I was listening to XM Radio’s “Uncle Sam” channel – a channel that was added just for the 4th of July. The setlist was very eclectic – the first song was from Schoolhouse Rocks, then David Bowie with Nine Inch Nails, then Judy Garland, Green Day, and finally a cut from the Animaniacs show. Later on there was a brass band that seemed to be performing a mashup of the Flintstones theme and the Star Spangled Banner.
Also, I thought the whole point of the 4th of July was to be ultrapatriotic – it was very odd to hear “I’m Afraid of America” and “American Idiot” playing on this channel.
